The work, the need and the impact

01

The Challenge

Menstruation is still considered a taboo in rural India. Mothers are reluctant to talk about it, while fathers choose to ignore its existence. Due to this stigma, lack of education, awareness and resources more than 77% of menstruating girls and women in India use an old cloth, newspapers, dried leaves and husk sand during their periods. This is not only unhygienic but can be dangerous to their overall health. During their period days, they are prohibited from participating in day-to-day activities, even entering the kitchen, and are forbidden from performing any rituals. This natural, healthy biological process has been stigmatised and shamed.

02

Our Aim & Approach

We believe that true empowerment starts with understanding. Our program goes beyond basic hygiene to help girls reclaim their confidence. By dispelling myths and removing the shame often associated with menstruation, we help every girl feel comfortable in her own body.

Our holistic method combines modern education with ancient wisdom:

Highly effective natural relief: We teach practical yoga, breathwork (pranayama), and Ayurvedic practices to help manage discomfort effectively.

Access to Essentials: Knowledge is vital, but so are resources. Our volunteers distribute free, eco-friendly sanitary pads to those in need.

Dignity for All: Our ultimate goal is to ensure every girl has the knowledge and means to manage her period safely and with dignity—whether she is at home, in the classroom, or out in her community.

03

Our Impact

75,000 girls educated and 4700 trainers enabled for Project Pavitra.

This program provides agency to women in rural and slum areas to become ‘change makers.’ Resulting in a ‘Domino effect’ of women’s empowerment that benefits the wider community.

Our trainers experience a sense of purpose and fulfilment which they pass on. The chain of women empowering women is getting stronger each day.

In the long run, we envision a total of 500,000 girls from rural communities per year to be educated on the crucial knowledge of menstrual education and hygiene.

How You Can Contribute

Transforming a mindset takes a village—and we need you in ours. While our volunteers act as the boots on the ground, your support fuels the engine that keeps them going.

Here is how you can help us:

Sponsor a Workshop: Contribute to cover the running costs to train more trainers and reach remote villages.

Volunteer and fundraise: Help us organise fundraising events or introduce us to corporates to partner with us for this project.

Whether you donate, volunteer, or simply start a conversation, you are helping a girl somewhere step out of the shadows and into her full potential.
